Evolution Craft Brewing Co. recently announced its planned location to the former Reddy Ice facility in Salisbury. The firm will renovate the facility for brewery operations along with an attached brew pub / restaurant. The company anticipates adding approximately fifty jobs.

Coastal Linen Service, Inc. recently began operations in a newly constructed industrial facility in Westwood Commerce Park. The company anticipates adding  approximately twenty-five new jobs.  
SWED salutes and congratulates the Maryland Economic Development Association on 50 years of operations. In support of MEDA's "Economic Development Week: Highlighting the investments in partnerships that strengthens competitiveness", SWED features MEDA's logo throughout its website and highlighted its own partnerships at SWED's 43rd Annual Meeting. 
Salisbury was recently featured in USAirways' monthly magazine. The magazine has a circulation of approximately 4,000,000.  Article
The City of Salisbury has been named All America City for 2010 by the National Civic League.
Chesapeake Shipbuilding recently announced expansion plans at its Salisbury shipyard. Chesapeake anticipates adding an additional one hundred positions associated with the expansion.
SWED held its 41st Annual Meeting at The Fountains.  Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt provided the keynote address.
Isotek, Inc., a division of Isotek LTD in Leeds, England, recently began it's wireless components business in Salisbury's Northwood Industrial Park. The company provides wireless component products to Original Equipment Manufacturers and Network Operators.Isotek Electronics, Inc., a provider of wireless components to Original Equipment Manufacturers and Network Operators began its business in Salisbury's Northwood Industrial Park.  
The Knowland Group recently made the Inc.500 list. The local company beat out Noble Investment Group, Kimpton Hotels and TravelClick. 
Genevieve Holdings LP recently purchased the 40,000s.f. former Americhem facility in the Northwood Industrial Park. The purchase provides additional space for Trinity Sterile, a Northwood manufacturer of medical kits for the health-care industry. Trinity anticipates adding sixty new jobs to it's current base of one hundred over the next several years.
Navtrak has been ranked #19 in Deloitte & Touche USA’s prestigious “Fast 50” program for the state of Maryland. Navtrak's 316% revenue growth over the past 5 years (2003-2007) places it among the top 20 fastest-growing technology, media, telecommunications, and life sciences firms in Maryland – and the only Eastern Shore-based company in the top 50. 
Hospital Billing and Collection Services (HBCS), based in New Castle Delaware, held ribbon cutting ceremonies at their new facility on Northgate Drive in Salisbury.  HBCS is a leader in the healthcare receivables management industry.  With 28,000 square feet, they anticipate at least 50 jobs by September, and 175 - 200 jobs over the next few years.  HBCS was formed to provide a nationwide group of not-for-profit hospitals with those billing and collection services that benefit from economies of scale, advanced technology and specialized expertise. 
Virginia based Orbital Sciences Corp. chose nearby Wallops Island to develop and test its new spacecraft, Taurus II.  The rocket is intended to deliver cargo to the International Space Station.  If the test mission is successful and NASA chooses Orbital to deliver cargo to the space station, future missions could originate from Wallops as soon as 2011.  The project will result in 125 new jobs, with approximately 50 at Wallops.  Approximately one-third of the Wallops Flight Facility employees reside in Maryland.
The Siesta Group recently began operations at the incubator at Salisbury/Ocean City: Wicomico Regonal Airport.  Siesta Group offers the world’s most efficient PSG scoring solution for diagnostic sleep centers in North America and world-wide. Centered around Siesta’s unique Somnolyzer 24x7 technology, scoring a sleep study becomes as fast, reliable and cost-efficient as never before.
Wicomico and Salisbury named to "100 Best Communities for Young People" for the third consecutive year!  America's Promise-The Alliance for Youth was founded by General Colin Powell. Wicomico and Salisbury were the only Maryland jurisdictions chosen this year.

The Knowland Group, holder of the worlds largest database of group events, recently relocated from Washington D.C. to Salisbury / Wicomico County.  Knowland, an internet-based technology company, operates within the sales and hospitality industry. 

MaTech recently held its grand opening for their facility on Naylor Mill Road. They purchased and renovated the 150,000 square foot former Sealy plant in Northwood Industrial Park. The expansion includes an additional one hundred positions.

Harvard Custom Manufacturing recently began constructing a 60,000 s.f. addition to its Glen Avenue plant. The company anticipates adding an additional two hundred associates over the next two years.
Rinnier Development celebrates a ground breaking for its Rowen's Mill subdivision located in the City of Fruitland.
Machining Technologies, Inc. (MaTech) announced its recent purchase and scheduled renovation of the 150,000 s.f. former Sealy Furniture plant in Northwood Industrial Park. MaTech is expanding its state-of-the-art precision machine operation and anticipates adding an additional one hundred associates to its current workforce of two hundred.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held July 18, 2006 for the newly renovated incubator space at the Salisbury/Ocean City: Wicomico Regional Airport.  Ameriscan, a GPS company and a subsidiary of Euroscan (Germany), recently began operations in the incubator. SWED, in conjunction with Maryland DBED, the Airport Commission, and the Maryland Aviation Administration helped to secure funding for the necessary renovation. 
Congratulations Salisbury, Maryland on being ranked 55th "Hottest Small City" according to Inc. Magazine.  For "Overall Best City," Salisbury ranked 84 out of 393.  The list focuses on job growth, and "small city" is determined as one with an employment base of less than 150,000.  According to Inc., "For several years now, the nation's entrepreneurial hotbeds have been migrating from the major urban centers to smaller cities on the periphery...The rise of these small communities is the most important trend emerging from this year's survey of the nation's hottest places to do business."
SWED's General Membership Meeting was held at The Fountains Wedding & Conference Center on April 19, 2006.  Our guest speaker was the President of Delmarva Power, Mr. Gary Stockbridge.  Mr. Stockbridge spoke on the topic of "Rising Energy Costs."
SWED held its 37th Annual Meeting at The Fountains Wedding & Conference Center on October 12, 2005. Keynote speaker was Aris Melissaratos, Secretary of Maryland DBED. 
SWED helped Callidus, LLC begin operations and develop marketing initiatives.  Callidus, a company begun by two Salisbury University students, develops and distributes software for the sleep lab industry.
SWED was pleased to assist Machining Technologies, Inc. (MaTech) in its expansion into the former 150,000 square foot Sealy plant in Northwood Industrial Park.  MaTech plans to renovate and add an office component to the facility.  In addition to site selection and assistance in permitting, SWED, along with Maryland DBED, provided funding through the SWED-Revolving Loan Fund and MEDAAF, respectively.

SWED held its 36th Annual Meeting in the Comcast Executive Club at the Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Guest speaker this year was Chris Low, Chief Economist at FTN Financial.  Chris is widely quoted in the business press, and is a regular on Bloomberg TV, Bloomberg Radio, and NPR's Marketplace.  He regularly writes and delivers BBC Radio's U.S. business news.  The meeting was a success with nearly 100 guests. 
Groundbreaking ceremonies held in Fruitland  for its new Prosperity Business Park located at the intersection of US Route 13 and Cedar Lane.  A brand new development, Prosperity Business Park, in the City of Fruitland offers ten commercial building lots for businesses looking for that hard-to-find perfect location.  Directly across from Wal-Mart SuperCenter and near the Route 13 Bypass.  The development is in a highly visible location with an excellent mix of area businesses that compliment each other.
Westwood Commerce Park, located at the intersection of US Route 50 and the recently completed Salisbury By-pass, offers 260 acres for light industrial, corporate, and commercial businesses.  Westwood Commerce Park is a new business development that will serve as the gateway of economic activity in the Salisbury area.  Situated on 260 acres at the intersection of US Route 50 and the new Route 50 Bypass, this route serves the major artery for Ocean City and resort area travelers.  The first lots were delivered Spring 2005.
SWED was proud to be a part of the UMES Rural Development Center's 15th Anniversary Expo held April 7, 2004 at UMES.
SWED, in conjunction with Salisbury University (SU) and the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO), planned the "Technology Partnering Showcase" at SU on March 23, 2004. The event showcased technology initiatives and research as well as commercialization opportunities throughout the Lower Shore and Maryland.    
SWED, through the offices of Senator Paul Sarbanes, helps to secure venture funds for NavTrak, a growing high-tech business in Salisbury.
SWED, in conjunction with Maryland DBED, completed the transaction whereby Silverton Marine Corporation purchased the former Webcraft plant (66,000 sq ft) in Northwood Industrial Park.  Silverton, selecting our community over several others in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, plans to create one hundred seventy-five new manufacturing jobs over the next several years. The company is an integral part of Luhr's Marine Group, one of the largest independent, employee-owned boat builders in the nation. Luhr's also manufactures boats under the Luhr's, Hunter, and Mainship brands.
Perdue Farms recently purchased Helvoet Pharma's 22,000 square foot facility and plans to establish a research and development center at the site.
SWED arranged a recent tour of area industry for the Wicomico County Council. The Council toured MaTech, Filtronic Comtek, Tishcon, Helvoet Pharma, Piedmont Airlines, & Harvard Custom Manufacturing.
