Wicomico is home to Salisbury University and Wor-Wic Community College with student enrollments of 7,000 and 3,500, respectively. In addition, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a student enrollment of 3,700 is just ten miles south of Salisbury.
The WICOMICO COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION operates sixteen elementary schools, one elementary/middle school, three middle schools, one middle/high school, four high schools, and one career and technology center for nearly 15,000 students. Teachers require a standard or higher teaching certificate. Average class size for elementary is 22; for middle is 25; and for high school is 26. Attendance rate is at 93%.
